For more pole barn information and terminology, check out our building basics guide!
A pole barn is a post-frame building that relies on large posts or columns as the main structural support. The term "pole barn" originally referred to buildings with round posts, like trees or telephone poles. However, the design has evolved, and today, various styles of poles and posts are used in different projects. While "pole barn" and "post-frame" are often used interchangeably, clarify the specific posts by discussing your options with your builder.
What is included in the building package?
All our building packages include top-quality framing lumber and treated posts for long-lasting protection against insects and wood rot. We supply premium quality painted steel roofing, siding, and trim in several colors, as well as color-matched fasteners and a wide selection of sliding or overhead doors, service doors, and window options, all custom-tailored to your own particular needs. We'll supply all hardware and provide easy-to-follow plans to help you finish your pole barn quickly. Concrete for the pad is only included if specifically requested.
Do you offer builder services, or can I purchase a DIY building kit?
Store offerings may vary, but most locations provide both options. Pricing depends on whether you choose to use our pole barn builders or opt for a pole barn kit. When submitting a quote request, you can select the DIY kit option if you prefer to handle the construction yourself.
Can I customize my barn?
Yes! Speak with one of our building specialists, who will help you define your building needs and preferences. Customers can customize metal colors, door and window openings, and the barn's length, width, and height. We also offer a variety of roof options, side porches, and lean-tos to enhance your covered storage area. Optional reflective insulation keeps your pole barn comfortable year-round with minimal wall thickness. Complete your building with optional cupolas, weathervanes, wainscots, horse stalls, and various accessories available in-store or through special orders.
Pole barn kits vs. pole barn packages
Our pole barn kits, or materials-only kits, include everything needed to build your pole barn, except the labor. You'll receive all the necessary materials. Right down to the lumber, custom-selected to match your specific project. This option is ideal for DIY builders who want the flexibility to construct the building themselves. Note: Some locations offer material-only kits exclusively. Our complete pole barn packages include both materials and labor. That means no scheduling, no sourcing, and no stress. You're left with a fully built pole barn, handled by our experienced team from start to finish.
